For policies issued in Quebec, if you have named your spouse (married or civil union) as a beneficiary, the designation is Irrevocable unless you selected Revocable. For policies issued in all provinces except Quebec, all beneficiary designations are Revocable unless you selected Irrevocable.
A revocable beneficiary is one that may be changed at any time by the policyholder without the knowledge or consent of the present beneficiary.
An irrevocable beneficiary designation means that the policyholder cannot change any aspect of the insurance policy without the written consent of the present beneficiary.
